Video conferencing has become an important part of meetings.
Earlier, if a multinational company had to conduct a meeting, it used to call its
employees to the venue of the meeting. Whether, it is a small issue or a big
issue the employees were called from all the locations. The company had to arrange
for the accommodation and food also, which increased their expenses.
Sometimes, it becomes difficult for the employees also to
attend the meeting, because of the work in their local office. Two years back,
there was a meeting at the head office of our company in London. My name was
recommended for representing the Delhi office. I was all ready for the meeting,
but unfortunately, a day before the meeting my wife got down with very high fever
and there was no one to look after her. I called up my boss and told him about
the whole situation. He told me that the meeting is very important and you have
to go. I had no option and called my sister to look after her. A similar case
happened, when I had a meeting in Australia and my son was not well. But this
time, I had the option of video conferencing. With video conferencing, now
there is no need to be physically present at the location. The meeting can be
easily done with video conferencing tools. To do this you need have the
following:
- A Web Camera: A web camera captures videos which may be viewed or streamed with the help of an internet connection. The video can be saved on your computer also for viewing it later. The camera should be of a good quality, so that the video is not blurred and is of high quality
- A Microphone: The microphone records the audio which may be saved on your computer or may be streamed over the internet.
- A Speaker or Headphone: The speaker or headphone gives the audio output.
- Internet access: Internet is required to stream the video, to different attendees of the meeting. The internet connection should be of high speed, because a low speed connection would result in streaming problems.
- A good Video Conferencing software: A Video conferencing software should be loaded in your PC or laptop. The software does all the transmission and receiving of the video stream. Without, the software it would be impossible to carry the video conference.
Video conferencing, has also shown its impact in virtual classrooms. In virtual classrooms, a professor or
teacher can give lecture from his own place to students. Virtual classrooms, have
found it use in distance learning. The teacher gives lecture from his place,
to the students of the classroom. These lectures may be recorded for later use.
